Dr. Laura's clinical philosophy is straightforward. A real clinician should hear the story, explain what matters in plain language, and give the patient a next step they can actually use. Swell does not pretend every concern belongs online, and it does not confuse a completed visit with good care.

WHERE VIRTUAL CARE BECAME PERSONAL
Long before Swell, care sometimes traveled by radio.
While serving as a battalion surgeon for a U.S. Army Special Operations Civil Affairs unit, Dr. Purdy supported teams across East and West Africa—sometimes guiding medics through an emergency from hundreds of miles away by radio or phone. That is where her work in virtual care began.
The lesson still shapes Swell: technology can carry clinical judgment across distance, but trust comes from the person on the other end paying attention.
